data privacy matching encryption

Biometric Template

A mathematical, encrypted representation of a person's biometric features used for identity matching — not a stored image of the face or fingerprint.

Templates must be protected with encryption, access controls, and data retention policies to comply with biometric privacy regulations.

Frequently Asked Questions about Biometric Template

Is a biometric template the same as a photo?

No. A template is a mathematical vector — it cannot be reverse-engineered into a photo. This makes it significantly safer to store than raw facial images.

Where are templates stored?

Nialabs stores templates encrypted on-device and/or in a secure cloud database with role-based access, depending on your compliance and data residency requirements.

What happens to templates when an employee leaves?

Templates should be deleted upon offboarding. Nialabs provides admin tools to purge individual or bulk user templates with a full audit trail of the deletion.
